Afghan police reported at least 80 people dead or injured after a car bomb exploded in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul near a number of embassy buildings on Wednesday morning.

A huge plume of smoke could be seen rising over the city above the explosion. An interior ministry spokesperson said some 30 cars had been damaged or destroyed in the blast
