Nine people have been confirmed dead and over 90 more wounded after a car bomb exploded in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul near a number of embassy buildings on Wednesday morning.

The Afghan Health Ministry confirmed the figures as emergency services continued working at the scene. A huge plume of smoke could be seen rising over the city following the blast.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
